What is Wind Power?
Wind can be transformed into useful energy such as electricity by using wind turbine. Wind energy has been used in many regions where wind existed. People built the wind turbines together, which created wind farm. The picture in the bottom shows "wind farm". Because wind blows everywhere and renewable (means that wind never disappear), it is used in many areas. However, it is not as productive as other energy sources such as coal, and petroleum because wind blows inconsistently.
Wind power creates electricty when the blades of the wind turnbine states to move by the kinetic motion of wind. As the blade spins, also a shaft that is connected to the generator spins. The rotational energy (kinetic energy) is transformed into electricty by the generator. The picture below shows how the wind turbine is formed.
